Accounting Specialist
Marshall County Accounts & Budget Office
This is responsible accounting and administrative work providing support for Marshall County Government’s Office of Accounts and Budget. Duties and responsibilities include the understanding of all aspects of accounting operations for the Office of Accounts and Budget. This position will serve as support for the office, with a primary responsibility of managing all aspects of grants administration. Job responsibilities require experience performing a variety of accounting and administrative transactions and procedures, strong organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills, and dedicated attention to detail. Job performance is evaluated by the Director of Accounts and Budgets through review of knowledge of accounting processes and transactions, timelines, thoroughness and accuracy of work, ability to consistently meet deadlines and organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. Job related duties are also subject to audit by the State of Tennessee.

- Serves as Grant Administrator for all grants awarded to Marshall County Government.
- Review grant applications and monitor grant awards.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements.
- Provide technical assistance to county departments in the application procedures.
- Assist in developing and implementing training for county staff on grant best practices.
Necessary Requirements of Work
Graduation from an accredited four year college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field or a minimum of three years’ experience in accounting or related field; knowledge and experience in accounting principles and practices; strong analytical skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; skill in the use and application of accounting software programs, word processing, and spreadsheet applications; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Knowledge of the Marshall County Office of Accounts and Budget operations including fund accounting and accounts payable and receivable functions.
- Knowledge of grant processes and practices including ensuring all applications are supported by proper documentation and approval; maintenance and verification of payment records; review of invoices and record receipts.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local government accounting practices and procedures (including GAAP and GASB accounting guidelines).
- Knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and techniques including the reconciliation of accounts, cash management practices, use of internal controls, etc.
- Knowledge of computerized accounting programs including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Must obtain CCFO Certification within the timeframe specified by Budget Director.
- Ability to prioritize daily, weekly, and monthly activities required to consistently meet all established deadlines and reporting requirements.
